Having gone through everything from losing my entire luggage during a stopover to having my flight from London canceled due to weather conditions (what else?), I’ve learned- the hard way- the true importance of travel insurance.
But sometimes, it’s not just flight changes or luggage catastrophes that make travel insurance indispensable. For those who live with chronic medical conditions, whether it’s heart conditions or even depression, there’s a risk of falling ill and spending thousands of pounds on treatment overseas.
To avoid spending an arm and a leg to treat other body parts, getting travel insurance specific to the medical condition you have been diagnosed with or prescribed treatment to is essential.
The real question here is: Why should you take the risk and not get insurance. If we had the ability to predict exactly when our medical conditions would flare up, we definitely would have had the common sense to plan our holidays around those times.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case- and that’s why we must take precautions, especially if we’re aware of medical conditions that are likely to affect our time away.
If you don’t declare a condition, you can’t claim for its treatment during your time away. That’s why you should declare all medical conditions you have been diagnosed with and that you know you are at risk of suffering from on your holiday.
While the conditions covered by insurance providers somewhat varies, these are, broadly, the medical conditions that are covered by most:
Heart conditions, which includes high blood pressure
Cancer
Respiratory problems such as asthma
Allergies
Diabetes
Joint conditions
And, in some cases, Depression
Don’t panic if the condition you have been diagnosed with is not on this list, as the conditions covered by each insurance provider varies greatly. Compare the different insurance packages available with our comparison tables to find the provider that fits your needs perfectly.
